Idolatry at it’s basic level is the externalization of a person’s psychology. Feelings, thoughts, and beliefs that should remain inside the person and motivate growth are thrust into the world in the form of controlling forces. This sort of personality “dumping” into the world causes man to lose the belief in his own free will and agency. That is the perfect storm in turning a person into a passive victim. The key is owning your thoughts and feelings and pushing yourself to be the master over them – not the other way around.
